10am - 1pm
What should I wear?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Bring a warm jacket! The ceremony will be outdoors in April in Northern California, directly on the San Francisco Bay waterfront! It may get quite windy and/or chilly, and we want you to be comfortable. For Saturday (ceremony & reception): please dress comfortably and in a way that makes you feel like yourself! Given that, the dress code is "festive attire," which means "cocktail attire, but have fun with it and make it your own" - it's a wedding, so people will be dressed up, but feel free to wear bright colors, fun accessories, and comfortable shoes! (We will be wearing comfortable shoes ourselves!)
For brunch, rehearsal, and rehearsal dinner: dress code is casual.
Will there be a hotel room block?
Yes! We've reserved a block at a discounted rate at the DoubleTree near the Berkeley Marina. Book using this link by March 15, 2024 to receive the group rate. There are several other good options, depending on your preferences:
- If you want to be a bit closer to restaurants, stores, and public transit, downtown Berkeley has several nice hotels
- There is a bed and breakfast called Hotel Mac in Point Richmond, a cute waterfront neighborhood very close to the venue
- There is a Best Western with excellent pricing and good proximity to the venue in Richmond
Will there be a shuttle?
Yes! We will have a shuttle running between the DoubleTree at Berkeley Marina (200 Marina Blvd, Berkeley, CA 94710) and the wedding venue for most of Saturday afternoon and evening. It seats 54 and the schedule is:- 2pm: Departure from DoubleTree (wedding party only)
- 4pm: Departure from DoubleTree (all other guests)
- 8pm: Departure from Riggers Loft back to DoubleTree
- 9pm: Departure from Riggers Loft back to DoubleTree
- 10pm: Departure from Riggers Loft back to DoubleTree
- 11:15pm: Departure from Riggers Loft back to DoubleTree (last one! Venue closes at 11)
Should I rent a car? Will there be parking?
If you prefer to drive, renting a car is a great option! Parking is plentiful and free at all venues. If you don't want to drive, worry not: the venue is accessible without a car, but you may need to take advantage of the shuttle and/or take a Lyft or Uber. If you're really ambitious, you can bike to the venue, though it's about an hour's ride from the Berkeley area with a few traffic-heavy intersections.Which airport should I fly into?
Either SFO or OAK would be a great airport to use. There are more direct flights to SFO, but OAK is a little closer to the venue. Car rental is convenient at both airports. Can I bring my kids?
Yes! Children are welcome at all wedding events (ceremony, reception, and brunch). What will the food be like? What if I have a dietary restriction?
Saturday's dinner will be buffet-style, with 3 main dishes: one with meat, one vegetarian, and one vegan; the meat and vegan options are gluten free. We'll have several (3-5) sides that can accommodate vegan and gluten-free diets. If this doesn't work for you, please let us know: the chef at the venue is very accommodating and we'll likely be able to work something out.Wine, beer, cider, and a variety of delicious non-alcoholic beverages will be available.
Sunday's brunch will feature breakfast tacos (vegan, vegetarian, meat, and gluten-free options available), yogurt, fruit, granola, tea, and coffee!
Will there be indoor/outdoor space?
Yes to both! The ceremony will be held outdoors. The reception will be mostly indoors (dance floor, bar, most dining tables) but outdoor space will be available throughout the evening, including some dinner tables. Please let us know if you prefer to dine outdoors. Patio heaters will be set up after sunset.I have another question!

For out-of-town guests (and in-town folks who want the Abe & Alyssa experience!), here are a few places we enjoy!
East Bay
- Berkeley Marina (bring a picnic and/or a kite!)
- Berkeley Bowl (we recommend Berkeley Bowl West because it's bigger, but both are wonderful)
- Hiking in Tilden Park - we got engaged on this Wildcat Peak loop!
- Miller Knox Regional Shoreline in Point Richmond (cute beach, great views)
- Abe loves the Coliseum swap meet (flea market, open every morning, 5401 Coliseum Way in Oakland)
- The UC Berkeley campus is beautiful
- We love the momos from Nomad Tibetan, the Thai food at Lao Thai Kitchen or Anchalee Thai, and the hand cut sesame noodles (or anything else) at Shan Dong.
San Francisco
- We had a lot of delicious breakfasts at the Pork Store Cafe when we first met - 1451 Haight Street, in San Francisco
- Golden Gate Park was the site of our first date (and is magnificent)
- Ocean Beach (on the west side of SF) was the site of our second date and is also maginificent (and cold, bring a jacket)
- The Sutro Baths are beautiful
- El Farolito and Taqueria Cancun both have amazing tacos and have multiple locations in SF and the east bay
Marin county/North Bay and beyond
- The Tennessee Valley Trail is a beautiful, easy-to-moderate hike
- Muir Woods (for some incredible scenery including redwoods. Make a reservation!)
- If you want to venture further, Healdsburg in Sonoma County is a cute little wine country town - the food & wine walking tour is fun!
- A road trip on Highway 1 is a classic west coast adventure. There are a ton of choices from San Francisco - our favorites would be going north to Stinson Beach/Point Reyes, or south to Monterey. Here's an article with lots of options!
Superbloom!
It's been a rainy winter in the Bay Area, which means we're about to have a big wildflower "super bloom!" 🌼 There will be beautiful flowers all over the area in early April. One great way to see them is on the Tomales Point Trail (about an hour's drive from SF, up in Marin county). Here's a longer list of spots around the Bay Area where the wildflowers will really be spectacular.Gifts are absolutely not necessary! We're so lucky to have everything we need and more. We're most excited about celebrating with our loved ones.
If you'd like to make a donation to members of our community who don't have everything they need, we love the work the East Oakland Collective and the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano are doing to make the East Bay a better and fairer place to live.
If gifts are your love language, we are registered on Amazon 💝

We met in January 2021 on OKCupid 💘
Our first date was a walk through Golden Gate Park, where we saw a tiny ocelot on a leash and I did a cartwheel on Hippie Hill. It was far and away the best first date I'd ever been on: he was charming and silly and thoughtful and appreciated me for the things I like most about myself. On our second date, we ate Thai food on Ocean Beach by (battery-operated) candlelight in 40-degree weather.
We moved into our house in January 2022, after making way too many trips over the Bay Bridge between Abe's house in Oakland and my apartment in San Francisco.
We got engaged on a hike in Tilden that October. I was excited to meet Abe from the first message we exchanged, and I feel lucky and thankful every day that we found each other!
